The biggest problem with mobile audio is the lack of power from the vehicle alternator. Other amplifiers are good for heaters. In order to get 400 watts to your speakers, the typical amplifier draws 1200 watts from your alternator. 800 watts are wasted in the form of heat. The Audio Engine draws the least amount of current from your alternator of any amplifier with the same output power. It is safe to say that you can get 3 times the power from your alternator than you get from other amplifiers! The Audio Engine wastes less power than other digital amplifiers because most of the alternator current is converted to SPL.
The Audio Engine looks different because it is different. Not only does it waste less alternator current, but it is smaller than other amplifiers, and runs much cooler.
